Nelson Harding

While researching Harry Graham and the poets he inspired, I stumbled on Ruthless Rhymes of Martial Militants by Nelson Harding.

Mr. Harding was a political cartoonist and in 1914 published his book of cartoons and ruthless quatrains that took aim at Women's Social & Political Union ( the leading organisation campaigning for women's suffrage in the United Kingdom). The WSPU was indeed a militant organization though I've not found anything to substantiate that they were quite as violent as Mr. Harding's satire would suggest.

While taking on a topic very different from Harry Graham, Mr. Harding's work is obviously inspired by Graham -- from the title to the cartoons combined with rhymes (Harry Graham's original work Ruthless Rhymes of Heartless Homes combined drawings with each of his rhymes -- when my original copy arrives, I'll post them here).

BoondocksNet.com has Mr. Harding's entire publication (cartoons and rhymes) online and it makes for interesting read.
